1,500 Schools Using DDR in P.E. Classes By 2010
No fair, we didnt get to play videogames in school.
While video games are traditionally seen as contributing to the nation's problem with childhood obesity, several hundred schools are now using the Dance Dance Revolution game as part of their physical education curriculum, The New York Times reported Monday.
It's projected more than 1,500 schools will be using the dance game in gym class by 2010.
The game reportedly has become a small craze among American kids who seem less enthusiastic about playing traditional team sports than their parents were.
"Traditionally, physical education was about team sports and was very skills oriented," said Chad Fenwick, who oversees physical education for the Los Angeles Unified School District. "What you're seeing is a move toward activities where you don't need to be so great at catching and throwing and things like that, so we can appeal to a wider range of kids."
