Battlefield Bad Company 2 Walkthrough, Battlefield Bad Company 2 Video Game Walk Through Guide (PC PS3 XBOX 360)More so than most other FPS titles, Battlefield Bad Company 2 is a game of two halves. On the one hand you have multiplayer, the staple ingredient of any Battle fieldhtle and a team-based shooter easily as good as anything else out there. But then the single-player offers an entirely different experience based on the same mechanics, the attitude and humour afforded by your team of misfits providing a stark contrast to the grim realism of war. Gordon Van Dyke, producer at DICE, is eager to fill us in on what’s changed since the last single-player outing. The B Company has matured and the tone of the story is a bit darker. We have a weapon of mass destruction that’s being developed as opposed to looking for gold, and with that comes a more mature story,” he explains. The objective-based mode seen in the beta will likely be joined by a selection of other options for launch. We want to maintain those characters and maintain the integrity of that situation because everyone really seemed to like those characters. Especially Haggard.” Van Dyke is perfectly open about the fact that DICE is relatively inexperienced as far as single-player action goes. But all things considered, Bad Company was a great example of a developer hitting the ground running, its considerable talents in the multiplayer arena translating effortlessly to a structured narrative. ”For us, single-player is still new,” he admits. ”Traditionally, DICE has had a heavy emphasis on multiplayer games and especially on PC. PC was an environment in which you could focus more heavily on that, but now you need a good single-player story to really capture people’s attention.” It’s an interesting point that he raises, and while there was a time when multiplayer-only games were seen as a perfectly acceptable thing, the proliferation of high-profile titles like Call Of Duty- where both aspects are out in force - has meant that almost without exception, games are now expected to offer both options wherever possible. You can use the same reasoning to explain disappointing figures for games like Enemy Territory and Frontlines or proposed multiplayer for the likes of BioShock 2 and Dead Rising 2. In fact, Left 4 Dead is perhaps the last bastion of multiplayer-focused gaming - despite complaints being frequently leveled at its lackluster solo experience - while only RPGs and games with Assassin’s Creed scale can brave the shelves without being able to boast a competitive or co-operative element.
