All three classes can be further specialised later on. But as with many things in Star Trek Online, Cryptic is without a doubt thinking something like Star Trek first and MMO convention second. Your key action talents are dictated by your weapon, not your career, and every category is efficient in man-to-man action, while the careers apply a little differently to vessel skills than special ones, wherever there is more scope for hybridization.
