The main innovation for Empire Earth III, though, is the global domination feature. Available only in singleplayer, its not just a map, but a sphere to be conquered. The world is split into provinces, and since your units stick around beyond battles, part of the game is shuffling them between provinces and starting fights.
Whether moving to occupy a neutral province or going up against another faction, you enter a battle map where you build bases and barracks in the typical RTS style. Players need to establish a foothold within five minutes or face defeat. Even conquering an unoccupied province takes some work because of the native tribes inhabiting them. The tribes must either swear fealty (leaving them to defend your territory and any units that remain) or be eliminated before you can claim the area for your faction.
