In the version on display at Games Convention, we were able to try three different modes. "Graffitii" shows players a difficult-to-read word on the screen that only shows up when you put on a pair of special cardboard glasses (to be included with the game) -- after one player sees the word, they have to draw the item with various colors of spray paint and try to get other players in the room to figure out what it is. "Globetrotter" asks geographical questions and shows players a globe they must use to answer with by pointing at specific locations. And "Blankout" asks questions and provides a word-creation device that you rotate (by tilting the Wii Remote) to spell out answers.
There will be other modes and themes to add variety to the final game, but the general idea of providing a casual group experience transferring the ideas behind the board game will remain. In fact, the company behind the board game is creating all the trivia content in the Wii game, and localizing it for different territories, so we imagine the questions will be similar to what you may have seen if you've played the board game.
Essentially, Cranium Kabookii is the kind of title Nintendo has begged third parties to make for Wii. It's simple, accessible for people who are not terribly familiar with videogames, and has a brand name that will appeal to that audience -- but likely won't appeal to core gamers at all. Cranium Kabookii will be in stores in November.
