Just got the press release for Tim Schafer's Brütal Legend, as well as a bunch of concept art. You really should just read it for yourselves, but if you're in a rush, I'll capture the spirit of the times with this excerpt: Work has been going around the clock and insiders close to Schafer have described Brütal Legend as the chronicle of Eddie Riggs, a roadie of a virtuous metal band, pulled back in time to learn his true purpose. Offered the wealth and knowledge of an ancient kingdom in exchange for assembling a legion of his own design, the roadie commands a barbaric mob of demons, dragsters, amp stacks, leather and chrome. Together they thunder across the land in the ultimate Tour of Destruction, driving the ancient world headlong into the Age of Metal. Brütal Legend TrailerBrütal Legend still hasn't been officially announced outside of a Game Informer magazine spread, but this trailer for Double Fine Productions' follow-up to Psychonauts or Epic Saga - Extreme Fighter is so dripping with awesome sauce that other video game developers must feel like throwing in the towel when faced with competition like this. A teaser trailer that's actually teasing? Novel! Also effective, as so many have been confirming by sounding off on what they think "Brutally Fun" could be. Here's another possibility, one with some meat on its bone: it's Double-Fine's "rumoured" Brutal Legend, starring Jack Black as a roadie trying to get to rock'n'roll heaven. IGN have done a little patent-scrounging and see that Double Fine registered the trademark for the name Brutal Legend on August 10. You'd certainly expect a Tim Schafer title to be fun, and a new Double Fine release would be worth crowing about. Plus, you know. It's got the word "brutal" in it.
Brutal Legend Reality? [IGN] Double Fine Readying Jack Black Attack?International House Of Mojo, a site primarily focused on LucasArts, Double Fine and Telltale Games coverage, recently ran a rumor on Tim Schafer and Double Fine's unannounced next game. Dubbed Brutal Legend, the game allegedly stars actor and musician Jack Black as a roadie who dies, is banished to Hell and must claw his way to Rock 'N Roll Heaven. The game is rumored to be revealed at next week's Games Convention in Leipzig, where Schafer will be keynoting on creativity. Of course, this is all rumor, as IHOM has since retracted its story, but it should be noted that Black has recently been spotted sporting the above pictured Whispering Rock Spring Summer Camp t-shirt from Double Fine's previous effort Psychonauts.
