Unfortunately, this moment is right around the corner, as the days that will live in infamy are well over a half of a century behind us now. Believe it or not, many WWII veterans contributing their expertise to game projects actually revel in the digital versions of the conflict, looking at it as a preservation of the past. While remembering the past via video games is noble, there comes a point when the "fun" factor needs to kick in and make the experience entertaining. The entertainment factor seems to be the crux of the WWII video game these days. If it hasn't been done yet, it probably isn't worth doing, it seems, as the market has been flooded for quite some time now, mainly with WWII first-person shooters claiming that they deserve commendation. Unless a developer goes paranormal with its FPS WWII experience, its game will be similar to others on the market simply due to history: weapons, events, vehicles and the axis and allies are constants. N-Fusion was well aware of this fact when putting together Hour of Victory, so you won't find too much out of the ordinary when booting up the single-player campaign for the first time. Nope, no zombie vampire Nazis in this one. The story may not be historically accurate (at least in terms of what you might find in a text book on WWII), but it isn't outlandish to think that the Germans were close to perfecting an atomic weapon in the early '40s. Your job is to use one of three highly specialized allied soldiers to thwart the German regime's plans of atomic decimation. The three playable characters have been designed in the ilk of a class-style multiplayer hero, with a very specific skill set important to accomplishing mission goals. Ambrose Taggert is considered the covert operative of the group, with a bayonet to accompany a silenced Sten gun. A stealth component of Hour of Victory kicks in when Ambrose is selected, with certain areas open to movement in the shadows. The character icon in the H.U.D. changes from light to dark for these stealth moments, keeping you informed if Taggert is at risk of being spotted. Along with killing silently, Taggert can also pick locks and cut through barbed-wire fences. William Ross is a British SAS and the resident commando of the Hour of Victory crew. He is the most resilient character, which means he can take a lot of damage and still continue to fight. Matching Ross' recuperative powers is brute strength, which enables him to move and lift heavy objects that the other team members cannot budge. Equipped with the famed M1A1 submachine gun as a primary weapon, Ross can make quick work of the enemy in full auto mode. If the M1A1 doesn't do the trick, there's always the back-up Webley pistol or the ubiquitous "pineapple" grenade.
