My first glimpse of Indiana Jones Lego was during the Second episode, the dreaded "Temple of Doom." I came into the game late. GeekMom decided to surprise them with the game and they played for hours before I got home. The boys had already whipped and screamed their way through Raiders of the Lost Ark and were stuck in a Shanghai hangar trying to fix a plane or open a gate or something. The whipping I expected, but screaming?
Girls are the Jar-Jar Binks of Indiana Jones Lego, they can jump higher and Willie can scream to break glass. But, she's tough in a fight and can solve puzzles so not completely stereotyped.
The boys have many hours under their belts in Lego Star Wars and the familiarity helps in navigating Indy. The rewards are still Lego studs, the environment is still highly destructable and characters have interesting skills needed to solve puzzles. The boys enjoyed the new challenges and puzzles, especially those that require them to remember the pattern and punch it in.
I quizzed them on how well they liked the game. After we got past "Great" and "Super Great," they told me that the rolling stone in part one was tough, forcing you to start over at the beginning of the tunnel if "the boulder smacks you". They haven't yet figured out how to escape the hangar in Temple of Doom, so they moved on to The Last Crusade.
We'd give this 4 Arks out of 5. Familiar gameplay, fun levels to decipher and new characters make it worth exploring. It is playable even when they haven't seen the movies (We're skipping the Human Sacrifice scene in Temple of Doom for a few more years).
The game doesn't offer as much depth as the Star Wars Lego games, won't take as long to complete and, as in Lego Star Wars, there is lots of Lego mayhem.
What are your reactions to the game? Did you buy the game because of Indiana Jones nostalgia or because of Lego Star Wars?

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Same thing happened with me. My son got to play a couple of hours before me. When I got to join it was in the college area where he was "lost". I was surprised about being able to pick guns and shoot back, though. Definitely more violent than Star Wars and seems like the chapters are longer and a bit complex. Will have to see if this one is better than SW.

Got it but haven't played it yet (apparently it's a "Father's Day gift" or something).
Picked it up because I absolutely loved LSW II, and expected it to be as good. From what I've read, it is.
I'm more curious to see what they do with the Lego Batman I've heard about (due September, I think).
I picked up this game for the kids as well, and they've been fighting for 2nd player spot with me.
Hey Dan, if you want to be a hero and help them figure out that airport hangar bit (it had me struggling a bit, too,) you have to use the forklift as a platform for Indy to jump off onto those brown things next to the airplane so he can whip the plane's engines and spin them up to start the plane.
If that wasn't what they were stuck on, let me know ;)

Jabberage, I can't see how this would be more violent than Star Wars. They carry blasters and slice people apart with lightsabers! Chewbacca rips peoples arms off!

Use the fork lift to get Indy onto the platforms by the propellers. Then switch to Indy and use his whip to start to propellers that are not moving. There is one on each side.

My wife and I love Lego Indy. We got Lego SW as a gift... then bought the first Lego SW game. And now we just got Indy. It doesn't seem as long as SW, but it's more puzzle oriented and less shoot-em-up, imo. We're really enjoying it. A fun way to unwind after work!

I think this may be even better than Lego Starwars. The characters seem to have a little more character and there's a greater variety of puzzle solving. The Indianna Jones stories really lend themselves to moving the story on through puzzles and some thought as well as action. Also Star wars had some sections beyong the dexterity of my young kids - some of it, like the pod racing, was almost beyond me: so far (80% of the way through) there's been nothing in Indianna J that my 6 and 5 year olds fingers and reflexes can't handle.
My kids have been waiting with bated breath for this release and it hasn't disappointed.
