Video Game Walkthrough Guide coming to WDS!
Nintendo Announces Deal with CocaCola Weekly Wii and DS prizes to Coke drinkers in UK.
In a deal that sees the company teaming up with it’s first ever partnership with a packaged goods brand, Nintendo has signed a promotional deal with Coca-Coca estimated to be worth £2 million GBP, according to Creative Match.
Online and print advertising will bolster the television and satellite advertisements spread over the Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Doctor Pepper lines. Nintendo believes that the move may well lead to a long-term relationship between the two companies. The first stage of the campaign involves offering weekly Nintendo Wii and DS-themed prizes (such as the chance to win an ultimate Wii party, complete with a fridge full of Fanta), entered by texting a code present on the packaging on drinks emblazoned with the promotion.
Nintendo’s trade marketing and promotions manager, Ben Taylor, explained that the relationship between Nintendo and Coca-Cola was aimed at developing an increased lead over its competitors in the next-generation console war, capitalising on the successful launch of the Wii:
“Wii is already the must have gadget of the year for people of all ages, this activity will re-enforce our message not just with hardcore gamers but importantly will also reach everyone in the household including the mums and dads we also want to attract to our products,”
Always Coca-Cola (and Nintendo)? Complementing Taylor’s words, Simon Pick, Senior Brand Manager, Fanta said: “This promotion marks the start of an exciting summer of activity for our Flavoured Sparkling Beverage brands. The brand aspires to be a credible part of our teen consumers worlds and will reinforce this positioning by giving consumers access to the ultimate Wii experience!”
What do you think of Nintendo’s move for extra Wii exposure, is it destined to be a sparkling success in the long run or will it fall ‘flat’ on its face?
