Onimusha Character Model to Star in Film
Kaneshiro moves from inspiration to actor.
Just a couple of weeks ago, WDS learned that Silent Hill film director Christophe Gans had passed on doing a sequel to that notsoliked movie in order to bring the Onimusha franchise to the big screen.
French film site DVDrama (via Ain't It Cool News) quoted Gans as stating that Taiwanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro will be taking on the role of Onimusha main character Samanosuke. This is great news for series fans, who likely already know the trivia bit: Samanosuke was modeled after Kaneshiro and contributed voice acting in the games.

Currently, the film has a $70 million budget but isn't set to begin shooting until early 2008. According to Gans (who says the movie will have a year of postproduction), we shouldn't look for it to hit theaters until midtolate 2009. This casting is a good first step, though, and shows a lot of respect for the source material.
