Pirates Caribbean: At World's End Walkthrough Video Game Strategy Guide (Wii)
Also On: PC June's Game Informer tells us: Release Date:05/22/2007 So whats the dealyo? Okay, well, Disney Interactive is not fooling around. If you want to play Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, you will, because its coming to pretty much every current platform you can think of: PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PC, PSP, and DS. While all the games feature the storylines of both the second and third movies with Jack, Will, and Elizabeth as playable characters some versions have more in common than others. Its a bit of a jungle, so were here to sort you out.
During a press presentation earlier this month, Disney Interactive representatives demonstrated the "multiple pirate control" system of switching between characters in realtime on the ship of the Flying Dutchman. If youre fighting as Jack on one end, you can see your friends fighting across the deck and take control of them with a simple button press. The ship is very climbable. You can scramble up the rigging and walk across beams if you have decent balance (which in the PS3 version takes advantage of the Sixaxis motion sensor). Another important gameplay feature is "adaptive swordplay." Rather than just cutting up your enemies, the sword is useful in other ways, such as lighting barrels of gunpowder on fire to solve Kraken tentacle involved puzzles below deck. For doing piratey things, you earn notoriety on the 360 version, your scores will be recorded on Xbox Live leaderboards.
In the Wii game, combat is remoteoriented, with light, heavy, and unlockable combo slashes, as well as a timed block and fakeout move. The PS2, PC, and PSP versions, on the other hand, all use essentially the same graphics and content as each other with traditional controls. Also specific to the Wii game are "Jackanisms," which are Jackspecific interactive moments with button prompts so you can have a hand in some scripted mischief. There will be tons of characters to unlock, and any level can be replayed as any of them. Some minigameesque sideofferings include Multiplayer dueling, Liars Dice (probably not wagering souls, which you may recall from the second movie), Texas Hold em style Poker, and Hearts. Finally, the DS game is off in its own, more platformerish world for Everyone 10+ as opposed to the 360 games Teen rating. Gameplay takes place on the top screen, while the lower screen shows your inventory. To use items, such as your handy grappling hook or bamboo vaulting pole, you just drag them into the item button area. Opening a chest initiates a lockpick minigame where you have to draw a line through a series of pins that close in if you take too long. The loot you gather manifests itself as a growing pile of gold on your ship. In addition to multiplayer Liars Dice on a single cart for up to four players, there will be multicart dueling with pretty much any character you can think of. The stylus is used to attack, while the Dpad is used to block. The character animations will indicate which direction a swipe will come from, so blocking is all in the reflexes. The whole gaggle of At Worlds End games will be available when the movie is released this May, so hopefully by then youll have decided which version best fits your tastes.
