Prototype tells the tale of Alex Mercer, a young man who is deeply involved in a government conspiracy of some sort. As you might have gleaned from the game's title, Mercer himself is a prototype model from a super-secret program, and he somehow manages to escape in an effort to learn the truth about his background. This is actually the antihero's origin story, and we were happy to hear that this will (hopefully) be the first entry in a brand-new franchise. There are actually several forces at work here, including a viral epidemic that is sweeping through New York City and infecting its citizens. Basically, the conflict boils down to a three-way war: Mercer, the government's special forces, and the infected denizens of the city.
