Ubisoft has unveiled Tom Clancy's EndWar - a strategy game with online multiplayer for next-generation consoles, set on the battlefields of World War III. Yes, three.

Due out on next generation consoles in fiscal year 2007/2008 (i.e. by the end of March 2008), it's described as "a revolutionary war strategy game" that "will push the standards of technology, showcasing artificial intelligence, graphics, physics and animations that were not possible prior to the launch of the new hardware systems".

It's being put together by Ubisoft Shanghai, and the publisher's touting it as "the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand".

What it's not doing is immediately clarifying whether EndWar is the game teased by jsf28555833-80604722.com - a viral marketing site that spits out gobbledegook, a radio transmission and the familiar Tom Clancy soldier icon. But the men on the viral's forum reckon it is, and it certainly makes sense.

Elsewhere, further details on the game have yet to be made available, but we expect to learn more about it in the next fortnight when a magazine embargo lifts, while Ubisoft is hosting a press event in France towards the end of May that may shed further light on what sounds like an intriguing project.
