At a THQ press event today, we had our first chance to test out the newly renamed Stuntman: Ignition, which you may have known previously as Stuntman 2. Essentially, this is the next-gen Stuntman, and given the series' concept of throwing you from one car stunt to another, the added tech allows some pretty elaborate scenes.
Not familiar with Stuntman? If you've ever played a Tony Hawk game where you have to follow another skater and perform tricks as he calls them out, the game plays a lot like that but in cars -- you race through various courses and a narrator/on-screen icons tell you where to go and what to do to complete the stunt course successfully.

At today's event, we had to opportunity to race through courses in two of the fictional movies you come across in the game (where the stunts take place): Aftershock and Overdrive. These tie-in with what you see around you, so in an Aftershock course, you'll be moving through an earthquake ravaged scene, and in an Overdrive course, you'll be racing around a city that looks a lot like San Francisco while making jumps and sharp turns down short alleys.
One of the most impressive things about the game is just how much the developers have managed to cram on the screen -- if you go 10 feet without coming across something to run into/over/away from, that'll be the only time that happens that level. As a result, not only is each course a tightly scripted scene, but it has a lot going on all around to make it feel more like a high budget production.

The main complaint hurled at the original Stuntman was that the game design was unforgiving, and a small mistake could mean repeating a lot of the game. And while it's definitely too early to say anything for certain, what we played today leaves us with a lot of optimism that the difficulty level won't be quite so high this time around.
