Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (Xbox 360) Also On: PC | PS2 | PS3 Release Date: ESRB Rating: Rating Pending Genre: Action Publisher: Electronic Arts Developer: Pandemic No, we didn't get to touch the controller. Yes, we got to watch Pandemic demonstrate the next installment in one of its key franchises at a press event yesterday: Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Unlike previous viewings, this time we got to see the 360 version. The small level demoed showed off explosions a plenty, of course, and a technique to infiltrate an enemy tank -- which utilizes an instanced event where players have to hit a series of buttons as they show up on the screen to yield the desired result (nothing we haven't seen before, but looks to have great animations). We also got to see an air-strike in action, which carpet bombed the intended target (in this case a building). Suffice to say, the building was demolished and the target was eliminated, which resulted in a mission success prompt flashing across the screen, as well as the cash earned for the elimination. We only wish we had a chance to get our hands on the controller to see how responsive the character control and shooting feels. We'll have to wait for a hands-on preview or the confirmed demo that will be released later this year to see how this pans out. Safe to say, if it plays anything like the first Mercenaries, Pandemic is poised to capture more lightning in a bottle.
